The Ridden Classes at the
South East Arabian Horse Group Summer Show

Hickstead, 2009

Day two at Hickstead was dedicated to the ridden horse with the pure bred novice ridden mares first in the arena which was kindly sponsored by Mrs S Lenny. The judge, Miss S Turner, placed Miss Sally Wriggleswort‘s Tabara (Palubnik x Queens Topaz) in first who successfully went on to claim the title Reserve Novice Ridden Champion. In second place was Artizana Prada (LM Luval x Gai Presha) for owner breeder Mr & Mrs A Rodgers.
Mrs V Coleman sponsored the pure bred novice ridden geldings, who were next in the arena. The boys seemed to take longer to settle than the mares and Mrs J Gilbey’s Wraheem (Wrzos x Zorya), ridden by Mrs A Thorogood, was placed in first, with Mrs V Huddleston‘s Ecuador (Orashaan x Ferelith) bred and ridden by Miss L Maryon in second.
There were only two novice ridden stallions, first place went to SF Ambassadors Amir (Ambassadors Raab Asifa x Gazalah ) for owner breeder Sally Anne Filtness and second to Mukhtar Ibn Eternity (Eternity Ibn Navarrone x Monsoon) owned by Miss G Rees. This class was generously sponsored by Mrs V M Wood.
The anglo & part bred arabians had their first chance to test out the all weather surface in their novice ridden class, which was well supported with eight out of nine horses forward. This class was sponsored by the Heaver family and winning the Alpha Centauri Cup was the very smart skewbald Perryland Politician (Mr. Harliquin x Morning Magic) owned by Misses M & M Burr & Pook and ridden expertly by Maria Pook who had a very successful day. Perryland Politician went on to win the Novice Ridden Championship and the Carrick Crystal Trophy, then over in ring three, under judge Miss S Holliday, he won the ridden coloured class, a new class introduced this year, and was presented with the Special Editions Cup. To finish off his very busy day the talented four year old gelding then claimed the title of Reserve Ridden Championship of the Show, notching up the Ridden High Points Champion of the Show in the process. (The down side to all this winning – cleaning all those trophies!)
The little dun show pony, Newoak Gold Dust (Ardenhall Missoni x Llanarth Kittiwake), owned by Mesdames D, P & J Jago, Caryosso & Newbery, ridden by Molly Walsh, came second in the anglo and partbred novice ridden class and was also reserve, reserve in the novice ridden championship.

The HOYS Qualifier classes, judged by Mr R Mills were next with pure bred open ridden mares in first, this class was again very generously sponsored by Mr S Lenny. A huge task lay ahead with 13 out of 15 mares forward to ride and judge. Mr Mills eventually chose the grey mare Nequitta (Narismma x Eka), owned by Mrs P S Pinkerton, bred Mrs W Carr and ridden enthusiastically by Nigel Fuller right through to the Pure Bred Open Ridden Championship, then, with a superb extended canter on the long side of the arena, he gave a wonderful display for both the spectators and the judge. They justifiably won the title of Overall Ridden Champion of the Show.

Second place in the Pure Bred Open Mares went to Eastworth Ahmoshini (Moashiro x Ahmalia), owned and bred by Ms S Coombs and ridden by Stephanie Zebedee. As they had already acquired their ticket to HOYS the ticket went to third placed Domino Rodgers riding Estaneera (Estasan Ibn Estopa x Kohineera).
Chasing the next HOYS ticket of the day were the pure bred open ridden geldings with eight out of the seventeen entries forward. The ticket went to first place, Mazeer Ibn Maarouf (Maarouf Ibn Rodan x Star of Nazeer), ridden by Katie Davies, owned by Ms V Coleman who also very fittingly sponsored this class. Mazeer Ibn Maarouf went on to win Reserve in the Pure Bred Open Championship and Reserve, Reserve Ridden Champion of the Show. Anazeh (El Mokari x Casablanca Bint Djammmal), owned and ridden by Joanne Woodward, was the second placed gelding and also took Reserve, Reserve in the Pure Bred Open Ridden Championship.
The final class to chase the HOYS ticket was the pure bred open ridden stallions. The liver chestnut stallion Eastworth Harri (Asrah x Princess Netitia) owned by Ms S Coombs and ridden by Stephanie Zebedee won the class, with Egatist (Artist x Egala) from Georgian Arabians, ridden by Abi Thorogood, in second. They had both already claimed HOYS tickets so Mrs G Bryan’s little bay Crabbet stallion Ibn Al Antoon (Antoon x Kariszma), ridden by Rachel Dear, also joined them at Birmingham in October.

(Tachyon Park x Hortensja),
owned and ridden by Della Theobald

Over in ring three, was the anglo arab ridden - exceeding 14.2hh (148cm) with judge, Ms A Cheek. Della Theobald‘s eight year old grey gelding Highlander (Tachyon Park x Hortensja) had a very successful day, he won this class, qualifying him for the Cherif Championship 2010, he also won the Anglo Arab & Part Bred Ridden Championship and qualified for The Balanced Horse Feeds Championships by winning the Large Riding Horse class. Unfortunately the day seemed a bit too long for Highlander as he was unsettled in the Bunn Arena for the Anglo & Part Bred S.E.A.R.C.H. (South East Arabian Ridden Champion Horse) he still managed to stay for fourth place for this class but he was sadly missed from the Overall Ridden Championship which he had deservedly qualified for earlier in the day.

The Part Bred Ridden - Exceeding 15hh (153cm) went to Silver Addiction (Silver Satyr x Contradiction) for Ms H Hammond and later claimed Reserve Anglo Arab & Part Bred Ridden Champion. Second place went to this years Anglo & Part Bred S.E.A.R.C.H.(South East Arabian Ridden Champion Horse) Champion, Belle Vue Highlander (Kizar x Lady of Iona), owned and ridden by Jo Heasman, who also won the title of Reserve Reserve Anglo Arab & Part Bred Ridden Champion.
Sadly there were no entries forward for the Part bred ridden - 14.2hh - 15.hh so next in the ring was the Anglo & Part bred Ridden - not over 14.2hh. Paddocklow Persephone (Aimbry Chester x Paddock Paragon) came in first place for owner, K Gough and Abbas Music (Cusop Disciplin x Abbas Racing Colours) second, for Caroline Fallows, who also stayed on for the Anglo & Part Bred S.E.A.R.C.H. (South East Arabian Ridden Champion Horse) Championship and was placed Reserve.
A change of judge to Miss D Robinson for Ridden Veterans and the 21 year old mare Pharach Samantha (Nizzolan x Nimrodel), owned and ridden by Sallie Dudley, won the Golden Oriel Memorial Plate, kindly sponsored by Elaine Welsford.
Four young riders (16yrs and under) competed in the ring with first going to Alice Dancy, riding Djamimah (Djammal x Santha); second Francesca Goddard, riding Fleetmead Man In The Moon (Mihyar x Ashurst Moonshine); third Lauren Turnbull, riding Khatasha (Ibn Estasha x Khabala); fourth Jessica Amess, riding AV Kubla Khan (AJA Shakakhan x Ffemme Ffataal )
The small riding horse not exceeding 15.2hh, sponsored by Marian Eydmann, was won by the partbred bay gelding Night Shadow (Yealand Night Owl x Arndilly Rose), ridden by Alice Heaver, and second was Sarah Nundy‘s Ramak Gold (Akram Gold x Tamila). The large riding horse exceeding 15.2hh was won by the previously mentioned Highlander with second place going to Jenny Keeley ‘s Desert Gayle (Ottergayle x Desert Colours).
Ramak Gold moved up from second to take first in the Pure Bred Intermediate Ridden Gelding with Esteban Ibn Narismma (Narismma x SFA Elysiah), ridden by Hannah Weeks in second. Disappointingly only one mare came forward for the intermediate ridden but a worthy winner nevertheless was, Valda Angier‘s, Melissa Rose (Kasadi x Kathryn Rose).

Miss S Holliday judged this years S.E.A.R.C.H. (South East Arabian Ridden Champion Horse) Championships. The Anglo & Part Bred S.E.A.R.C.H. Champion was Belle Vue Highlander, ridden by Jo Heasman, Reserve Abbas Music, ridden by Caroline Fallows and Reserve Reserve was Night Shadow ridden by Alice Heaver. The Pure Bred S.E.A.R.C.H. Champion was given to Ibn Al Antoon (Antoon x Kariszma), ridden by Rachel Dear and the Reserve was Melzi (Da Vinci x Masora), ridden by Rebecca Napier Clark, sadly no other qualifiers came forward to claim the Reserve Reserve.
