South East Arabian Horse Group Summer Show
Hickstead, 2010
Day one was dedicated to the Inhand classes and unfortunately it was a grey damp miserable looking day with a fine mist of rain, not what you would call a typical August day for the heart of our summer.
The Pure Bred Yearling Colts were the first in the Bunn Arena for judge Mr E Jones.
A Sound Of Thunder (Vervaldee x Pashonate ) owned by Mrs N Hutton-McKenzie caught the judge’s eyes to claim first place, he who also went on to claim Reserve in the Pure Bred Junior Male Championship and Reserve, reserve Overall Pure Bred Youngstock Championship. Owner breeder Mr & Mrs D Tyzack’s Lanson QC ( WH Justice x Melena IA ) came second in the yearling colts he also went on to claim Reserve , reserve in Pure Bred Junior Male Championship.
Mrs C Rowell was the judge of the female classes and her first placing was the yearling filly owned by Mesdames B & C & S Gamlin & Ratcliffe & Powick’s Narva D (Vervalde x Johremar Nagwa ). Narva D later claimed the Pure Bred Junior Female Champion and Reserve, reserve Overall Pure Bred Youngstock title. Second in the filly class went to Silverdale Training Centre’s Miskia (Audemars PA x Misteria ), she also won the Reserve, reserve Pure Bred Junior Female Champion .
Two year old filly SG Mayerling (KZ Ibreez x Malikeh El Sakeena ) owned by Mr P Edwards came first followed in her class by Ms J A Cooper’s AV Sugababe (AV Montoya x AV Chicfantasy).
The 2 & 3 yr old colts classes were amalgamated with the colt MG Vaquero (Vervaldee x Vataga) owned by Ms G Parker pulled in first and he later won both Championship titles for Pure Bred Junior Male and Overall Pure Bred Younsgtock plus Reserve, reserve In Hand Champion of the Show. Second place in the class went to Zebauri (KZ Ibreez x Araura) for owner breeder Mrs H LeFevre.
Sadly only one out of four 3 year old fillies came forward, Tajamira ( Psyches Spirit x Amir Al Noor) for owner breeder Mrs A Taylor. This filly came back in the ring to win the Reserve Pure Bred Junior Female Championship.
It was notable that the stallion Vervaldee sired the top three overall youngstock purebreds, the Champion, Reserve and Reserve reserve
Judge Mrs S Jones next received the 1-3 yr old Crabbet Bred Arabian into the Bunn Arena. Again only one came forward, this time for owner/breeder Mrs H J Kadri’s Sukaina (Daas x Summertime Blues).
Three senior Crabbet Arabians showed in the next class with the SEAHG Treasurer Marian Eydmann’s gelding Tytus (Silvern Ghaalib x Princess Silphara ) placed first. Owner/Breeder Gillian Bryans’s stallion Ibn Al Antoon (Antoon x Kariszma ) was second and Mrs Caroline Sussex’s gelding Binley Silver Spark (Spirit of Silver x Sema ) third.
Mr Jones continued judging the gelding classes, these classes were a British Arabian Championship qualifier.
The junior geldings were in the arena first and Spirit of Antzaris (Psyches Spirit x Antzaris ) owned by Gillian Bryan won it and he became the Reserve in the Pure Bred Gelding Championship. Second in the class was Alkara Cassino ( H Tobago x Rose Aboud) owned by Miss C Himsley.

MW Kiss Ibn Khidar (Khidar x Divine Tranquility) owned and bred Mrs Hutton McKenzie won the senior geldings class and also Pure Bred Gelding Championship title.
We also had a special guest, Mrs Phyllis Macmillan, to present the champion with the Mystic Moon Memorial Trophy, this was kindly sponsored by Mrs Macmillan’s family in celebration of her 90th Birthday.

Equit ( Pilot x Eqviria ) owned by Ms M Brown and bred by The Janow Podlaski State Stud. Came second in the senior geldings and was Reserve, reserve Pure Bred Gelding Champion.
It was noticeable that the entries were down overall for the day and it was disappointing that only four mares came forward for judge Mrs C Rowell in the next two classes.
First placed pure bred barren mare was Melena IA (USA) (Enzo (USA) x Waratah (USA) ) owned by Mr & Mrs D Tyzack and bred by Mr R Dewalt, she also went on to claim the Pure Bred Senior Female Title. Second in the class was Brief Encounter (Ffatal Attraction x Ross Estara ) owned by Ms A Antoniades who went on to claim Reserve, reserve Pure Bred Senior Female.
First place for the Brood Mares was MW Divine Grace (Saker x Divine Tranquility ) who claimed the Reserve Pure Bred Senior Female Champion title. Her foal MW Asher (Kumait Al Nakeeb x MW Divine Grace) was judged at the same time in the arena, he was a feisty little chap and gave the handler a ‘run for their money’.
Due to the lack of entries the stallions junior & senior class were amalgamated. First place went to Roe Laheeb (Essteem x ZT Ludjbrosiaa ) for owner/breeder Mr Aggad. He also went on to claim Pure Bred Senior Male and Reserve In Hand Champion of the Show . Second place stallion was Nabucco ( Nadir I x Nirvana) who became Reserve Pure Bred Senior Male for owner Mr & Mrs R Warner. Third was AJA Bijan (FS Bengali x Sanadina ) he was named the Reserve, reserve Pure Bred Senior Male.
The Special In Hand Classes were held over on the grass in Ring 3 and was judged firstly by Dr J Bishop. Here the damp conditions brought in swallows which swooped in and out the horses to feast on insects, pity it they didn’t reduce the wasps.
There were no young handlers entries received so the first class was the Amateur Owner/Handler. Gillian Gribble came first with a mare she bred Rosella Gold (Catherston Gold Storm x Zarafshan Sharella) and received the Benjamin Trophy. Later in the day, under judge Mrs S Jones, she came second in AA & PBA Mares 4 years and over class. Second place Amateur Owner/Handler went to Ellen Shaw with Anglo Arab mare Gaillimh Dunkerrin (Ashtairs x Carlithos Amadaus) they also picked up another blue ribbon later in the Show Horse/Pony 4yrs and over class finally they claimed the Reserve, reserve Show Horse Pony & Coloured Breeding Championship .
Two Veteran horses graced the ring Classique Triumph (Bamboo Saucer x Millbrook Jan Andrea Jewell) in first for owner Samantha Jones and Kashish (Dhruv x Princess Roxanya) for Marian Eydmann.
One Show Horse/ Riding Pony Youngstock came forward, Mandy Burr’s Authentic (The Alchemist x Floure De Luce), he went on to win the Anglo Arab & PBA 2 & 3 yr olds, the Show Horse Pony & Coloured Breeding Championship and Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Junior Championship.
Sadly all the Coloured Horse Pony Classes were cancelled due to lack of entries.
Rebecca Napier Clark’s little Partbred mare Stanwell Sundance (Cranleigh Elite x Stanwell Queens Flight ) looked very smart and caught the judge’s eye to win the Show Horse/Pony 4yrs and over class then also went on to claim Reserve in the Show Horse Pony & Coloured Breeding Championship.
Thee were no Female Classic Head Entries but we had two Male Classic Head entries. First went to Equit (Pilot x Eqviria ) for owner Ms M Brown.
Second was Matalooka (Psycheclone x Shantu Sequel) for owner Mrs L Payne.
Mrs S Jones judged the AA & PBA Yearlings in Ring 3, this class was a Ponies UK qualifier. First place went to the skewbald PBA Dublins Ma Ajmala (Hombres Boston Chico x Elashaan ) she also went on to claim Reserve Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Junior Championship for owner Mrs C Smith. Second in the yearlings was Anglo Arab Bonnie St George (Sarfraz x Wacella ) she also went on to claim the Reserve, reserve Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Junior Championship for owner Ms C Pepe . |
Desert Gayle (Ottergayle x Desert Colours)
owned by Jenny Keeley

Jenny Keeley’s Anglo Arab Gelding Desert Gayle (Ottergayle x Desert Colours) won the AA & PBA Gelding 4 years and over class and the Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Senior Championship. To make the perfect Birthday Present for Jenny he also won the In Hand Champion of the Show (It was a shame to see he wasn’t entered in the ridden classes on Sunday). |
|
Jo Heasman’s Belle Vue Scottish Connection (Kizar x Lady of Iona ) came second in this class and later was named Reserve , reserve Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Senior Champion. Jo’s other gelding Belle Vue Highlander, who you might know, is a full brother to Belle Vue Scottish Connection and a classic mini mee).
Following this class was another win for Jenny Keely with Black Opium Poppy (Red House Faraoh x Shandiss Sapphire ) in the AA & PBA Mares 4 years and over class, she became Reserve Anglo Arab & Partbred Arab Senior Champion.
The tall leggy chestnut foal Xivier's Ginger (Tyland Xivier x Silverlink ) won his class for owner/breeder Ms L Reynolds.
No Anglo & Partbred Stallion Entries were received, where were you all?
Ridden Classes were held on day two, the weather started out slightly better than on Saturday, sadly rain fell for the beginning of the HOYS classes but fortunately this was short lived and cleared for the rest of the show.
In ring 3 the Anglo and Partbred Ridden classes where held for judge Mrs D McDonald-Bassett. The first class was the Anglo Arab Ridden over 14.2hh and only Bonnie Sassy (Sarfraz x Flight of Fantasy) come forward, owned by Mrs S Shaw and ridden by Phili Pickard. They also won later in the more popular Small Riding Horse class but no large riding horses came forward for their class which was a pity.
Jo Heasman’s Belle Vue Highlander (Kizar x Lady of Iona) won the Part Bred Ridden over 15hh class and later became the Reserve Anglo Arab and Partbred Champion.
Comanche Deuce (Premier Color x Nazadiki), owned and ridden by David Whittard, came second in the over 15hh class and later Reserve, reserve in the Anglo Arab and Partbred Championship.
The four year old grey partbred, Kingsford Moondance (Colebeach Nightlight x Kingsford Daisy Chain) owned by Mrs J K Reed and ridden by Katie Davies, behaved beautifully for his debut outing winning the class and also going on to win the Anglo Arab and Partbred Championship.
A change of judge in ring 3, with Dr J. Bishop having the pleasure of judging the ‘golden oldies’ Veteran ridden class. First was Golden Sequin (Ghibli x Selinderella), owned and ridden by Fabiana Sandi, second Kashish (Dhruv x Princess Roxanya), owned and bred by Mrs Marian Eydmann ridden by Gina Pirk, and third was Zarafshan Sharblla (Azrafll x Shahkira), owned and ridden by Gillian Gribble.
Following this class with a change of jockey, Zarafshan Sharblla, won the Young Riders class with young Mr. Gribble up.
Sadly all the coloured horse classes were cancelled due to lack of entries.
A popular class however was the Pure Bred Intermediated Ridden and this was won by Ecuador (Orashaan x Ferelith), for owner Mrs V Huddleston, ridden by Miss A Keen.
The final class in ring 3 was a new class added this year, the Crabbet Bred Ridden Arab, which was won by the grey mare owned and bred by Mrs M O'Rourke, Silvern Moonlight (Silvern Sceptre x PHA Silver Heart), ridden by Stephanie Turner.
The Pure Bred Novice Ridden Mares were first in the Bunn Arena for judge Miss J Smith. Mrs M O'Rourke’s homebred, Silvern Starlight (Silvern Sceptre x PHA Silver Heart ), ridden by Miss Stephanie Turner was pulled in first place. Second was Ku-Zira (G Loventure x Ku-Ribi), owned and ridden by Peggy Postma.
The Pure Bred Novice Geldings was won by Baakar (Narym x BB Balenca), owned by Penny Biles ridden by Louisa Biles, he also went on to claim Reserve, reserve Novice Ridden Champion. Second was Mutaahab (Kharrazan x Mararak), owned and ridden by Elizabeth Bailey.
The Stallions were next with three entering the arena but only two finished as sadly Roe Namrood (Simeon Sadik x Pr Midnite Magic) failed to settle. Owner/Breeder Heather Brown’s Psyche's Spirit (Padrons Psyche x SL Sweet Emotion), ridden by Clare Fitch, won the class and also went on to claim the Novice Ridden Champion plus he became Reserve Ridden Champion of the Show. Second place in the stallion class was Om El Shahgall (Sanadik El Shaklan x Om El Shaina ), owned by Judith Powell bred by Om El Arab International and ridden by Maria Pook, he also went on to claim Reserve Novice Ridden Champion in his first regional show.
The Anglo & Partbred Novice Ridden was won by Rebecca Napier Clark’s Stanwell Sundance (Cranleigh Elite x Stanwell Queens Flight). It is encouraging to see that horses who did so well in the pervious day’s in-hand carried on the success in the ridden classes. Second in the class was another beautifully produced horse in Mrs J K Reed‘s Kingsford Moondance (Colebeach Nightlight x Kingsford Daisy Chain), this was the four year old gelding’s debut, expertly ridden by Katie Davis.
Judge Ms Amanda Cheek had her work cut out for the HOYS qualifying classes and rode the mares first, 11 of the 13 entered mares showed. Shortly after the judge began riding the mares it started to rain. The human nature for staying dry instantly produced a flurry of spectators’ umbrellas and the steward promptly asked them to be put down as some horses maybe unsure of this strange object. It would have been interesting to see how different the line up would be if the umbrellas stayed up, sorting the bold Arab with the less accustomed ones. Personally I would like to think that any horse in a position to qualify for HOYS, and all the excitement it entails, could take a normal day’s object in their stride without too much fuss but I guess as HOYS is indoors = no umbrellas! The mare in first was a worthy winner however and later became Reserve, reserve Pure Bred Open Ridden Champion with another great ride for Clare Fitch on Mahdinaa (Mahaala x Magic Dinasty), owned by Mrs S Rodgers. She already had a HOYS ticket so it went to second placed, Mandy Burr’s Jasmeena (Esteem x Jameena ) ridden by Maria Pook.
There were 19 entries entered for the geldings HOYS ticket. Again 11 came into the arena, but one left early to try their luck in Ring 3 for the Intermediate Ridden as the classes clashed. SEAHG Scholarship winner, Monique Wallace, rode Grenade (Grenlando x Silver Sariche ) into first place. With a good season she had already qualified for HOYS earlier in the year so the ticket went to second placed LVA Damascus (Espano Estopa x Challon Salana ), owned by Miss K Broughton, ridden by Clare Finch. Grenade later became Reserve Pure Bred Open Ridden Champions and Reserve, reserve Ridden Champion of the Show.
The final HOYS ticket also went to second place, this time SF Ambassadors Amir (Ambassadors Raab Asifa x Gazalah), owned and bred by Sally Filtness, ridden by Suzie Wells.

The Crabbet Stallion, Silvern Prince (Prince Sadik x Silvern Image) bred and owned by Caroline Sussex and expertly ridden, as always, by Darren Crowe, won his stallion class and was a highlight to watch as he proceeded to win the Pure Bred Open Ridden Champion and rounded off the day with the well deserved accolade of Ridden Champion of the Show.
This year’s Ridden High Points Champion was the Anglo Arab chestnut mare Bonnie Sassy (Sarfraz x Flight of Fantasy), owned by Mrs S Shaw and bred by Mrs J Kotecha |
