Toy Story won the Part-Bred section of the 2006 AHS Performance Awards with 770 points, and was overall champion for the second time - all of these points were gained from competing in affiliated dressage. Following a successful showing career in his younger days, including wins at Malvern, now age 11 he is concentrating on dressage and has amassed 240 BD points with wins to Advanced level. Maria Pook has ridden Toy Story for his owner/breeder Mandy Burr since he was backed at 3, and now trains him with the help of local dressage trainer, Mark Ruddock. He has not always been easy as he is headstrong and precocious, but he has exceeded all expectations by starting to compete at Prix St George level and is now learning Grand Prix movements. |
The aim now is to continue to compete alongside the big warmbloods and fly the flag for arabs, with hope of achieving the ultimate goal of competing at Grand Prix one day. |

The winner of the Anglo-Arab section for the 4th consecutive year was Spice Girl, who is also owned/bred by Mandy Burr and ridden by Maria. Spice Girl gained her 477 points in both affiliated dressage and ridden showing. During 2006 she competed at Elementary and Medium level dressage and also had several wins in the show ring, both ridden and in-hand. After a busy 5 years in the show ring and dressage arena Spice Girl has now been retired to stud and the more leisurely life as a broodmare, and hopefully she will pass her trainable temperament and performance abilities on to her offspring. |

| Lorna Ewin's, Fairwinds Jedi, placed second in the Pure Bred section with 371 points. He gained points by coming 1st in 8 unaffiliated prelim dressage tests, 2nd in 5 and a few other placings.
Fairwinds Jedi placed first in a ridden class, where he de-noviced himself, then made it around a showjumping course in 4th which helped with the different spheres to gain bonus points. One of his wins in dressage was at Oldencraig so now he has qualified for Hickstead in June 2007. |
Fairwinds Jedi is just coming up to eight years and stands about 15'3", he is by Kasadi from the Harwood stud. Lorna says "He is great horse with a very big stride so may try a few graded rides this year as when we do 15 mile pleasure rides he comes back and can't understand why he has to stop. He is lovely to hack out on, even though he jumps at everything and it is great that he has come this far, especially when he has been through the wars with a very bad injury from a few years back and was in horse hospital for a good two months then at home in his box." |
