I can’t believe they didn’t cancel this show considering the showground was on a slope and we have had at least 7 days of torrential rain. The rumour was that they were uninsured for ‘weather’. The whole showground was calf deep in mud and by the end of the afternoon you could hardly see the horses through cold grey mist.

Congratulations to all those with grey horses who managed to keep them clean(ish)! I have attached some fairly rubbish photographs of the ridden arab class – sorry to all the competitors and especially to Muzhala who was like a streak of white lightning and much too quick for my camera. |

The saving grace of it were the hospitality tents of various firms of land agents practically begging complete strangers to drink their wine and eat all the food they had clearly prepared for actual clients who were too sensible to attend. All horseboxes and trailers had to be pulled from the showground by tractor, which resulted in many horses being loaded on the road.
