SEAHG Spring Show - 25 April 2009
In-Hand classes report by Susan Blore

With Tina Day judging, the first class of the day begining in the In Hand ring got underway. Entries in the Anglo and Part Bred youngstock classes were significantly higher than has been seen for many years. This has been put down to the re-introduction of the Wessex Anglo & Part Bred UK In Hand Championship for which this show was a qualifier. The Anglo and Part Bred yearlings class had four out of a possible six forward, the class was of very good quality, two yearlings in particular really standing out. The winner was Ms Angie Bell’s Brizemead Silouette ( Stanley Grange Royal Appointment x Brizemead Chatterbox), a very good looking bay filly. In second place was Miss P Allpress’s Wolvers Amazing Grace (No Submission x Wolvers Aquarius) another good looking filly with lovely movement, who looked slightly immature against the class winner. The two year olds followed with five of the nine entries forward. Again, this class had two that stood out and the class winner Mr Jeff Grace and Mrs W Taylor’s was Renelles Royal Fanfare (Stanley Grange Royal Appointment x Renelles Sparkling Romance) who stood out as one you might want to take home! In second was Mrs Carmichael’s Fielden Cottontail (Ninefield Midnight Mink x Feilden Field Mouse) with Miss Partridge’s Milligan (Crystal Magic x Lady Sherina) taking third place. With four forward of a possible six forward in the three year old class the class winner Mrs Glenda Morris’s Glenton Aphrodite (Akhiran x Midnight Dalul), a free moving filly that filled the eye. In second was Mr Jeff Grace and Mrs W Taylor’s Renelles Florentine (Stanley Grange Royal Appointment x Renelles Sparkling Romance), a full sister to the winning two year old, with Mr & Mrs Kennedy’s coloured If Stacatto Wind (BHR Windtuck x Jer Don Aria) taking third place.

Unfortunately, the senior classes were less well supported. With only two forward for the mares, the class was won by Harriet Hammond’s free moving grey Silver Addiction (Silver Satyr x Contradiction) with Sue Shaw’s Bonnie Sassy (Sarfraz x Flight of Fantasy) in second. The gelding class only produced one forward, Mrs Johansson-Massey’s Mayway Momento ( Mayway Boy George x Miss Hippo), and the stallion class faired no better with only Lisa Reynolds palomino Tylands Xivier (Lucian Sunset x Shulay Glint of Gold) forward.
The championship was full of quality horses and taking the title was the outstanding Rennelles Royal Fanfare, with the yearling Brizemead Silouette in reserve.
After a short break, Mrs Day proceeded with the next classes, the first being the Crabbet class. This was full of quality and had a lovely multitude of Crabbet breeding forward. The class was taken by Mrs Gill Bryan’s bay stallion Ibn Al Antoon (Antoon x Kariszma) with Ms J Fuller’s Bey Daghmah (Ganemede x Dahmah) taking second. Marian Eydmann’s Tytus (Silvern Ghaalib x Princess Silphara) took third place. Refreshingly, all horses forward in this class were shown naturally with no twirling, whooping or overstretched poses. The Amateur Owner/Handler was expertly won by Hannah Weeks with Esteban Ibn Narissma (Narissma x SFA Elysiah) with Roanna Hamilton taking second with her gelding Bonnie Excalibur (Sarfraz x Wacella) and Helen Hubbold taking third with the gelding Fyrepower (Power x Patenta). The young handler class had only three entries, but all were deserving winners handling their horses with respect and care. This class went to a SEAHG regular and Junior Member, Jessica Amess with her own AV Kubla Khan (AJA Shakakhan x Ffemme Ffataal) with Evangeline Parker taking second with Piketa (Peichur x Prestance) and Giverny Dursley in third with Nazaan (Zircon Nazeer x Suhan)..
The veteran class followed and was a joy to watch. Taking the class and not wishing to act his age in the slightest was Mrs Pat Horwell’s Zircon Akasaab (MA Alishah x Kazaba) who was very high spirited and showing off as much as possible! Taking second place was Mrs Alison Dursley’s Nazaan, with Mrs Johansson-Massey’s El Kia-Ora (The Frosted Orange x El Kadelia) in third. Fourth went to the eldest horse forward, Ellen Shaw’s Ashtaris (Prince Shazani x Ankartis) aged 20 years .

Next saw a first for the South East group the innovative Parade of Horses For Sale. Four horses were entered, but only two up being paraded in the ring as one was in it’s ridden class in the other ring, the fourth horse was not at the show. It seemed to be popular with each horse being paraded in turn you could see them up close and see them move and pose, much better than a photo. The owners provided commentary giving details of each horse and all forward received special rosettes. Hopefully, this will be continued for the future by providing the introduction of prospective buyers and sellers.
The Pure Bred In Hand classes followed on swiftly with the Hon Mrs T H Wragg taking the helm. Yearling fillies were the first in and although small in number, the class was full of quality. Mrs Foreman’s Forever LA Estrella (Forever Besson x Elonie) headed the line with Miss L Leathers’s AA Bright Dream (Psy Dream x Bright Kiana) taking second and Jo Cooper’s Precious Love (The Alchemist x LA Bint Bint Cometera) taking third.
Padron Psyche breeding dominated the yearling colts with Miles Buckley’s Solitaire SR (Psy Dream x LTF Wings of Joy) taking the top slot and Angelic Legacy (Psyches First Edition R x Allegra Bint Djammal) hot on his heals. Third place went to Val Curtis’s Al Hudaydah (Om El Mareikh x Tiaze) who looked a miniature version of his sire. Only one horse was presented for the two to three colts which was Silverdale’s Fredoric (Mirokan x G Fantastica), never the less he was deserving of his red ribbon. The fillies fared better with four forward, but only two were judged due to the late arrival of the others. The class was won by Jamissiah (Narissma x Jammilah) owned by Hannah Weeks who has taken after both her parents in the looks department! In second was Ms Tapsell’s Fawaura (Sky Comet x SFA Passionata).
The geldings provided the largest class in the junior section with seven forward.
The juniors were headed by yet another Padron Psyche relation, John Brewster’s Psyrabba (Psynergy x Lianna) with second going to Iisis Kandahar (Ali Abbas x Bint Charismma) and Miss Law’s Sihr Kamar (WSA Charismma x Aliya Bint Misk Tarifa) in third. The junior championship followed and taking the title convincingly was the gelding Psyrabba, with the yearling Forever LA Estrella in reserve.

AV Kubla Khan

The senior classes had good numbers entered, but only a few forward, with the exception being the geldings. This was a big class full of quality and provided a second win for Jessica Amess and AV Kubla Khan. Miss Smith’s beautifully marked chestnut Taher (Narim RASB x Queens Topaz) took second, with Mr Starr’s Nyte Vision (Narissma x Om El Sabiya Estopa) taking third. This gelding was very attractive and is a maternal half brother to MA Bint Azadik. The last two classes had only four forward each.
The mares was won by Captain & Mrs Downes ethereal grey VA Mia Valentina (Kordelas x TA Mirabelle), with Silverdale’s Kelize Exquizite (Thee Equalizer x HT Zahra) in second and Miss Pody’s Fahimah (Piechur x G Fantastica) taking third.
The stallions pulled a big crowd and Ms Warmington’s snow white Els (Eldon x El-Era) took the class ahead of Mrs Lawrence’s Germanikus (Azteq x Promice) in second and Ms Tapsell’s Sky Comet (Silver Blue x Sky Halo) in third. Special note should be made that Els is not just a pretty face, but turns his hoof to showjumping and cross country too. Perhaps we’ll see him on the ridden circuit soon?
The Championship was tense with some top quality horses forward. It came as no surprise though that the championship went to Els, with reserve place going to AV Kubla Khan. Els’ owner Ms Warmington was presented with a wonderful handmade native show halter generously donated by Scarlet Arabian Bridles.
A great day was had by all and we look forward to the summer show on the 22nd and 23rd August at the new venue, The All England Polo Arena, Hickstead.
