SEAHG Spring Show - 22 April 2007
Ridden classes report by Pam Edwards

We start the years showing with a beautiful day, birds singing albeit a few unwanted pigeons inside. One of the few days at a Spring show when it was warmer outside than inside However, this time of year one cannot be sure of the British weather so it is better to keep the Spring show inside.

First came the Novice purebred mares, judged by Victoria Ayling, not very well supported, only three out of eight came forward for this class. 1st place to G. Karibbea, owned by Ms.H.L. Creasey. This mare gave the judge a good ride. 2nd Ffanchii owned by Mrs. V.Curtis and 3rd Artizana Prada owned and ridden by Veronica Rogers, by LMLuval thus a lovely looking mare who I would like to see in a years time more advanced.

Next the Novice purebred Geldings. 1st was Silvern Magus owned and ridden by Celina Singh, a nice chestnut who gave a good ride to both rider and judge. 2nd Fatten ridden by Mandy Burr a nice mover. 3rd Tytus owned and ridden by Marian Eydmann who moved up from 5th to 3rd.

Only two came forward for the Novice Stallions and 1st was Moonhills a Star is Born, owned by Ms O’Rourke and superbly ridden by Matthew Selby. One to watch in the future. 2nd Eldor owned and ridden by Mrs. A Cunningham. He just didn’t want to play today for his owner, however Victoria coaxed him and he went a little better for her. Typical male!

On to the Ridden Open Mares and the classes starting to get a little bigger.

1st Za-Zareena owned by Mrs. D. Bryce, gave Victoria and rider a really good ride. 2nd NPA Kurrannah, owned and ridden by Jo Furr, a nice mover who did well to be moved from 4th to 2nd , 3rd Muzahla owned by Dr Joan Bishop ridden by Rebecca Morrish who also did well to be moved from 6th to 3rd.

Next the Open ridden Geldings, 1st Grashakyme owned by Mr & Mrs Harwood and ridden by Rachel Dear, This gelding is having a good start to the year and one to watch. 2nd Cachaturion owned and ridden by Miss C. Gregory gave a faultless ride to both rider and judge and deserved to be move from 4th to 2nd, well done!. 3rd Melzi owned by Mesdames R & S Napier-Clark and Easton and ridden by Rebecca Napier-Clark a nice mover.

Last of the purebreds, the Open ridden Stallions. Only three entries, 1st SHF Warrior a stunning dapple grey owned by Mrs. S. Compton, ridden by Kate McDougal. This stallion particularly caught my eye, he just had that little extra something for me. 2nd Juma owned by Miss J. Powell and ridden by Fi Dent. 3rd Ibn El,Nefous, ridden by Monique Rose.

Celia Singhs Silvern Magus ,a novice Gelding took the Championship, well done and Reserve went to the Harwood’s Grashakyme, and Res. Res. to my eyecatching stallion SHF Warrior.

Special Ridden Classes

Next the Small Riding Horse, pure, Anglos and Partbreds. A nice selection of chestnuts, bays, roans, palominos & greys came forward. 1st was a lovely mover Abbas Tribal Dance, owned buy Caroline Fellows and ridden by Annette Christy. 2nd was Juma, a bay stallion and 3rd was Akheem owned and ridden by Hayley Bunday.

Only three entries for the Large Riding Horse and Stephanie Turner takes over from Victoria to judge for the rest of the day. This class was won by the majestic ‘Ottoman’, always a joy to watch, owned and ridden by Rachel Dear, and went superbly for both judge and rider. 2nd was Night Shadow, a handsome bay owned by Ms T. Heaver and ridden by Chloe Heaver . 3rd was Melzi a nice grey gelding that also went well.

Last of the special ridden classes was the Amateur Rider. This class was well supported and was won by Ffanchii whose rider did a nicely ridden show for the judge.
2nd was Abbas Music a chestnut partbred mare ridden by Caroline Fellows. A smart little horse that went very well for his rider. 3rd Muzahla, ridden very nicely by Rebecca Morrish.

After a short break, The Novice Anglos and Partbreds. Only 3 came forward and 1st was a smart looking dapple grey gelding, Blysful Ignorance, owned by Mrs. J. Stevens and ridden by Natasha Stevens. I thought that this horse belied his name and gave a very sensible ride and was beautifully turned out. 2nd was Silver Sparkle owned by Mrs. L. Bennet and ridden by Harriet Podd. This was a very well schooled little horse a pleasure to watch. 3rd was Belle Vue Highlander, ridden by Jo Heasman, a strong excitable chestnut but settled nicely for the judge. A nice prospect for the future.

Anglos and Partbreds 153cms and under was won by Ninfield Windsor Girl, owned and superbly ridden by Monique Wallace. This horse was beautifully turned out and was my pick of the day alongside the Open Stallion winner, SHF Warrior. 2nd was Abbas Music, very smart and well schooled. 3rd was Abbas Tribal Dance owned by Miss C Fallows and ridden by A. Christey. It was lovely to see Darren Crowe enter the ring on a stunning dark bay. He came 5th and I wish him all the luck in the world this year.

Lastly the Anglos and Partbreds over 153 cms was won once again by the great ‘Ottoman’ 2nd was Charlie Chaplin owned by Joanne Smith and 3rd Night Shadow a very nice dark bay owned by Ms T. Heaver and ridden by Miss Heaver. Once again the pigeons zoomed in causing s few spooks.

Finally the Anglo and Part Bred Ridden Championship was won most deservedly by my pick of the day Ninfield Windsor Girl ridden most beautifully by Monique Wallace. The Reserve went to Abbas Music, a very smart and well-schooled chestnut. and Reserve Reserve went to Rachel Dear’s incomparable Ottoman.

A good day was had by all and I thought both judges were more than fair and rode every horse with great expertise.
