SEAHG Spring Show - 25 April 2009
Ridden classes report by Susan Blore

The 25th April 2009 started out wet and miserable, but by the start of the first classes at the Spring Indoor Show, the sun had come out. The first class of the day was the Novice Ridden Pure Bred mares, judged by Stuart Fleming. The class seemed to give mixed rides for the judge and the final line up had quite a few changes, resulting in a win for Corrine Thompson’s 20 year old Crystal Glimmer (Crystal Magician x Nozhah) with Judy Phillips’s Khamillah (Imperial Kamilll x Kateefah) in second and Tony Rodgers’s R Bey Ali (Magic Dream x Bey Affair) in third.
The Novice Pure Bred geldings produced a mixed bunch with some going very well and others looking very nervous and unsettled. The class winner was Jo Hollamby’s Fattan (D’Albert x Vermeille) who was beautifully presented and gave the judge a good ride. Second went to Penny Biles’s Baakar (Narym x BB Balenca) with third place going to Nadia Diluzio’s grey Lymerik (G Iridis x Letisha).
SG Palesstreem

The final novice class, the stallions, had just two entries forward, but the class winner oozed quality. Claire Ford’s SG Palesstreem (Essteem x Paleogeia) ridden by Stephanie Zebedee looked to be an armchair ride and took the class easily. In second place was Sally-Ann Filtness’s SF Ambassadors Amir (Ambassadors Raab Asifa x Gazalah) who was a little unsettled with the judge but looked foot perfect for his rider.
On to the opens, a small class for the mares of three horses forward resulted in a win for Tony Rodgers’s Estaneera (Estasan Ibn Estopa x Kohineera) ridden by Domino Rogers, with Peggy Postma’s Ku-Zira (G Loventure x Ku-Ribi) in second and Judith Powell’s Om El Shabrina Dream (Dreamcatcher x Om El Shadiva) taking third place.
The geldings produced only four horses forward, with each horse going well this seemed to be the strongest class of the day. In first place was Melzi (Da Vinci x Masora) beautifully presented by owner/rider Rebecca Napier-Clark, with Sandra Clacey’s Portunas (Galeon x Ino) in second and Sarah Kasasa’s strapping chestnut Radmus (Blysmus x Rasmiga) in third. Unfortunately the stallion class had only three forward, but again this was a quality class. The winner repeating his earlier success in the novice class was Claire Ford’s SG Palesstreem, with Mr P Gamlin and Mr V Matthews’s Erald (Monogramm x Emigrantka) in second and the Crabbet stallion Ibn Al Antoon (Antoon x Kariszma) in third. On to the Pure Bred championship and with the majority of the eligible horses forward the championship went to the snow white Estaneera with SG Palesstreem in reserve.

Joanne Woodward took over as the second ridden judge, with her first class being the Balanced Horse Feeds Riding Horse qualifiers. The smalls had a good mix of Pure Bred and Part Breds and giving a faultless display to win the class was Jo Heasman’s chestnut gelding Belle Vue Highlander (Kizar x Lady of Iona), closely followed by Caroline Fellows’s Abbas Music (Cusop Disciplin x Abbas Racing Colours) who also gave a faultless display. In third, taking a break from endurance, was Dave Whittard’s coloured Part Bred Comanche Duece (Premier Colour x Nazadiki). In fourth was Melzi who was flying the flag for the Pure Breds.
The large riding horse class disappointingly only had three entries, but all were of true riding horse quality. Jenny Keeley’s Desert Gayle (Ottergayle x Desert Colours) took the red ribbon with ease giving a foot perfect performance. Second place went to Mayway Momento (Mayway Boy Gearge x Miss Hippo). Unfortunately, the class was a bit too much for Highlander (Tachyon Park x Hortensja) who was withdrawn after the initial line up.
Ribi Estopa

The amateur riders produced a class of seven and was won in style by Miss Vikki Court riding her own mare Ribi Estopa (Ibn Estopa x Ku-Ribi) with Bella Jackson in second riding Red House Merlin (Hadj x Red House Karina) and Dr Sarah Kasasa in third riding her gelding Radmus (Blysmus x Rasmiga). This was a very stong class and everyone presented their horses well, a credit to the Amateur owner/rider fraternity.
The veterans produced only four of the seven entries forward. Ages ranged from 16 to 20 years with the class winner the 16 year old Ribi Estopa winning her second class of the day. She was closely followed by Corrine Thompson’s oldest horse in the class at 20 years old, the liver chestnut mare Crystal Glimmer (Crystal Magician x Nozhah). Followed by Evangeline Parker’s Pikita (Peichur x Prestance) in third and Alison Durlsey’s Nazaan (Zircon Nazeer x Suhan) in fourth.
The last three classes of the day were dedicated to the Anglo and Part Bred Arabs, with the first being the Novice ridden. Only three horses came forward from a possible seven, but all three were wonderful to watch. Taking the class convincingly was Karen Carugati’s snow white Kesra’s Image (Saker x Mayes Park Mystic VII). He gave a very polished performance both in the initial go round and for the judge. Second went to Susan Taylor’s Hidden Chance (General Gambul x Headsnook Shady Shadow) with Elisa Spivey’s Mels Desert Kestral ( El Chenz x Cockaroost Samsara) in third.
The Anglo and Part Bred under 153cm Cherif qualifier had four entries forward with the class going to Annabel Rainbow’s Sandlings California Dreaming (Westacre Comic Opera x Ninefield Thatched) with Caroline Fellows’s Abbas Music (Cusop Disciplin x Abbas Racing Colours) in second and Francesca Berni’s Courtland Exquisite ( Hamptonne Desert Storm x Persian Blue) in third. On to the final class of the day, the Anglo and Part Bred over 153cm Cherif qualifier. This was a mixed class with only five forward from a possible eight. Taking the class very convincingly was Silver Addiction ( Silver Satyr x Contradiction) who had won her In Hand class too, closely followed by Belle Vue Highlander, who again gave a foot perfect performance. Third place went to a late entry, Mrs Heaver’s Night Shadow (Yealand Night Owl x Arndilly Rose).
