Pure Bred Arabian Breeding
By Rita Dingwall
SEAHG Summer Show 2007 Cuckfield Ring – In Hand Classes
The Pure Bred Arabian Breeding classes were ably judged this year by Miss Marlene Pollard (Females) and our overseas judge Mrs Helen Hennekenns van Ness (Males).
The female classes in particular were well supported and if the males were lacking in numbers in some classes, the quality more than made up for it.
The weather was particularly unpredictable this year and the conditions were challenging, but the groundsman had worked very hard after the South of England Show the previous week, to ensure that the rings were in good order for our show – for this we thank them.

In second place was Zaak (Mahmoud Shah x Zaffira) who also went on to stand as reserve, reserve junior male champion.

This exquisite chestnut gelding went on to win the gelding championship with Naddir (Andrus x Nazieka) taking second place in this class and the reserve gelding championship.
Crabbet Bred Arabians
The Crabbet Bred Arabians graced the Cuckfield ring in the most appalling weather conditions of the day and were a joy to watch. Marlene Pollard chose Aurran (Silver Sceptre x Silver Aura) as her winner with the 8 year old Fairwinds Jedi (Kasadi x Silvered Rosebud) standing in second place.
Pure Bred Arabian Mares
Owing to the numbers of the barren mares entered, the class was split into the Pure Bred Barren Mares born in or after 2001 and the Pure Bred Barren Mares born in 2000 or before. The mares were a sight to behold – wonderful representatives of Arabian breeding. Marlene Pollard found her winner, champion pure bred senior female champion and overall in hand champion of the show in Prawica (Ararat x Palmira) beautifully produced by Emma Maxwell on behalf of Mr & Mrs P Atkinson & Howard Price. A breath taking chestnut filly showing quality in every stride she made. Another outstanding filly Melena IA (Enzo x Waratah) took second place produced by Rebecca McCormick of the Silverdale Training Centre who also went on to stand as the reserve pure bred senior female champion of the show.
The older mare class was won by Misteria (SU) (Balaton x Magnitka) with Mozaka (Medalj x Eka) in a very worthy second place.
There was just one pure bred brood mare forward, bred and produced by the Harwood Arabian Stud. This was Caecilia (Kasadi x Freyr) a lovely grey mare who moved beautifully and had produced a magnificent colt aged 3 months Unnamed (OM EL Mareikh x Caecilia) who has a promising future in front of him. They were both commendable winners of their respective classes. Caecilia went on to stand as the reserve, reserve senior female champion.

She chose Forever Besson (US) (Besson Carol Pahr x Forever Bint Czar Ahra) a lovely 4 year old bay stallion who later won the pure bred male championship, just beating Heather Brown’s Prodigy (Psyches Spirit x Perfect Kossack) into second place. Prodigy went on to stand as reserve, reserve pure bred male champion.

4 senior stallions came forward to be judged and the winner of this class was ELS (Eldon x El Era) an eye catching grey stallion who stood as the reserve pure bred male champion to Forever Besson (US).
In Hand Supreme Champion of the Show
Prawica (Ararat x Palmira) took this honour and Emma Maxwell (handler) and Paul Atkinson looked absolutely delighted when presented with the awards for this exquisite mare. A very deserving reserve champion was Mettlewood Liberty (Anglo and Part Bred category) as reported in the Anglo & Part Bred Breeding classes by Pippa Bowles.
This brought the show to a close and I would like to thank the show committee for all their hard work, the volunteers who help make this show such a success, but in particular, the competitors without whom it would not be possible – thank you. |
